Privacy-First Approach: Everything Stays on Your Device
RockLens is built around a privacy-first design. Your photos, identification results, and collection history are stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not maintain a central database of your personal content, and we do not sell your information to third parties.

Information We Process

Photos/Images
When you take or upload a photo of a rock, crystal, mineral, fossil, or gemstone, that image is processed to generate an identification and analysis. Photos are stored locally on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your personal iCloud account.

Face Data (Clarification)
RockLens does not intentionally collect, process, or store any facial recognition or biometric data. The app is designed exclusively for identifying rocks, crystals, minerals, fossils, and gemstones from user-submitted images.
Users may submit any image, including those that could contain human faces. In such cases, images are processed only for the purpose of identifying rocks, crystals, minerals, fossils, and gemstones, and no facial recognition or biometric analysis is performed.
Images are temporarily transmitted to third-party AI services solely to generate identification results and are not retained by RockLens. We do not store or use face data for any purpose.

Results/Analysis
Identification results, including composition, rarity, estimated value, and care information, are generated for each photo you submit and saved to your local collection history.

Chat Conversations
If you use the AI chat feature to ask follow-up questions about a rock, crystal, mineral, fossil, or gemstone, those conversations are processed to generate responses and are stored locally on your device.

Language Preferences
Your selected app language is stored locally to personalize your experience.

How We Use Your Information

To Provide Our Services
Your photos and chat messages are temporarily processed through third-party AI services to generate identification results, estimated values, and expert answers. This processing is temporary and solely for the purpose of delivering the results you request.

Usage Data
We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (such as feature usage frequency) to help us improve the app. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

Data Storage
All personal data, including photos, results, and chat history, is stored on your device and, if enabled, synced to your personal iCloud account. We do not maintain our own servers that store your personal content.

Third-Party Services

AI Processing
RockLens uses third-party AI services to analyze photos and generate identification results, estimated values, and chat responses. Images and messages are transmitted temporarily for this purpose only and are not retained by these services beyond what is necessary to generate a response.

Analytics
We may use analytics services to collect anonymous usage data to help improve app performance and features. This data does not include personal or identifiable information.

Your Data Control

Complete Control
You can delete your photos, results, chat history, or your entire collection at any time directly within the app.

iCloud Sync
If enabled, your data syncs across your devices through your personal iCloud account. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device or app settings, which will stop future syncing of your RockLens data.

Data Portability
You can export or share your identification results and collection with others at any time.

Data Security
Because your data is stored on your device and in your personal iCloud account, its security depends on your device's security settings and your iCloud account security. We recommend using a strong device passcode and a strong, unique password for your Apple ID/iCloud account.

Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of RockLens after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
